10 Best Tips for New Wig Wearers

#1. Prepare Your Wig
Your hair has been traveling for a few days, it's time to shake it back to style!  Hold your wig or hair piece upside down by the tag area and give it a few shakes, or brush it out by combing it gently from the front hairline to the back.

#2. Prepare Your Hair for the Wig

If you have short hair or no hair, go ahead and put it right on.
If your hair is long enough to put in a ponytail, make it as low as possible.  For extremely long hair, make 2 braids, then wrap them around your head and bobby pin in place, or use a wig cap

#3. Added Security

Although many clients don't wear anything under their wig and it feels completely secure, we know that some of you may want a bit of added security. Our #1 product for keeping our wigs on is our Wig Grip Band. You can wear this whether you have hair of your own or not. Other options include metal wig clips, wig glue, double-sided tape, a wig cap and bobby pins. All of these items can be found in the “Hair Care” section of our website and in our stores.

#4. How to Put Your Wig On

First, identify the back of your wig (where the label is). Place your thumbs and forefingers on each side of the label. Then place the front of the wig at your eyebrows, pull the wig over your head and tuck your ponytail in. Then slowly slide the front of the wig until you just barely see your hairline. Tuck in any excess hair. Then find the two tabs near your temples and make sure those are even. That's how you know the wig is on straight.

#5. What if your wig is too full...too long...

If you put your wig on and it doesn't seem exactly right, that doesn't mean it's the wrong wig for you. Our wigs are designed so the bangs and length can be customized if needed. Visit a hair stylist for some minimal trimming or thinning, or spend a few minutes just playing with your wig. You may find that a few small adjustments will create the perfect wig for you!

#6. Style Your Wig

Be sure to use clean hands, or a designated brush to style your wig or hair piece. Run your fingers lightly through your wig or brush it into a style you like. Use a little “Keep It There” low alcohol hairspray to remove any static or for extra control.

#7. Get to Know Your Wig

Be sure to use clean hands, or a designated brush to style your wig or hair piece. Run your fingers lightly through your wig or brush it into a style you like. Use a little “Keep It There” low alcohol hairspray to remove any static or for extra control.

#8. Build Your Confidence

For many people, wearing a wig is a completely new experience. To get comfortable wearing your new wig, go to public places where nobody knows you. Look in every mirror you find, and get used to seeing yourself in your new style. At home, talk to your family and friends and let them know this wig makes you feel great and ask them if they will support you in your new journey. Get the “yes” from them.

#9. How to Maintain Your Wig

You want to wash your wig or hairpiece every 10-15 times you wear it. Be sure to use our Keep It Clean Shampoo (which gets out all the dirts and oils) and our Keep It Sleek Conditioner (which keeps it feeling like hair). Use COLD WATER only and let your wig drip dry.

CAUTION: DO NOT USE ANY INTENSE HEAT!  No blow dryer, No curling iron, No flat iron. Caution near ovens, BBQs and heat lamps.

#10. Create a Wig Wardrobe

Most of our clients own 2-20 wigs. We suggest that you have two wigs ready at all times. This way when you are washing one, you can wear the other and always have a back up. In addition to wigs, you may add a top piece or bangs to your wardrobe as well!
